Wedding Cupcake Trees Vs. Traditional Wedding Cakes – What’s Really Cheaper?

Many couples today are opting for wedding cupcake trees in place of traditional Wedding Cakes in order to save time and money and add a little convenience to The Cake serving portion of the reception.  Since Wedding Cupcakes don’t have to be sliced up since each cupcake is an individual serving in itself.  And since each is a miniature Wedding Cake on its own, guests can choose to take them home as favors and eat them later.

There is such wide array of tiered designs, tree stands and decorations that wedding cupcake trees can be as extravagant or as simple as you would design a traditional wedding cake.  Also, each cupcake can be decorated to look like a miniature wedding cake on its own.

But are wedding cupcake trees really a cost savings over a traditional wedding cake?  Actually, they can cost just about the same and they can even be more work, especially if you decide to get just as fancy with them as with a traditional cake.

Initially the cupcakes may cost less, as little as a buck or two per cupcake if you do them yourself, versus $3.25 and up per person or per cupcake, since each cupcake would be considered a cake serving.  But obviously you don’t want the same kind of cupcakes you’d serve at a birthday party.

So now your cake designer must do the work on a smaller scale, and more than once in order to decorate each cupcake individually instead of decorating one large cake one time or a few cake tiers.  And then if you want any embellishments like fancy cupcake liners or special fondant icing, it adds more cost to the whole project.

Time and Convenience of Wedding Cupcake Trees
You’re now starting with several little mini cakes that have to be carefully arranged on the tiers versus one cake per tier that sits centered on its tier.  And if your cake designer charges for setting up the cake, you may run into some added costs there as well with wedding cupcake trees versus a traditional wedding cake.  If there is an additional charge for having the cupcakes set up for you, you can always ask your bridesmaids or family members to help arrange the cupcakes before the reception.

How to describe the smooth tenor voice of Glenn Yarbrough? Perhaps by comparing it to the mighty seas that gave the legendary folksinger a case of wanderlust–occasionally rough but always beautiful and strong. When Yarbrough left the Limeliters in the early 1960s for a solo outing (and the occasional sailing voyage), he knew what he was doing–hits like “Baby, the Rain Must Fall” would establish …

PART I. TT was not her real name: it was given to her by her brothers and sister. People with very marked qualities of character do sometimes get such distinctive titles, to rectify the indefiniteness of those they inherit and those they receive in baptism. The ruling peculiarity of a character is apt to show itself early in life, and it showed itself in Madam Liberality when she was a little child. Plum-cakes were not plentiful in her home when Madam Liberality was young, and such as there were, were of the ” wholesome ” kind — plenty of bread-stuff, and the currants and raisins at a respectful distance from each other. But few as the plums were, she seldom ate them. She picked them out very carefully, and put them into a box, which was hidden under her pinafore. When we grown-up people were children, and plum- cake and plum pudding tasted very much nicer than they do now, we also picked out the plums. Some of us ate them at once, and had then to toil slowlythrough the cake or pudding, and some valiantly dispatched the plainer portion of the feast at the beginning, and kept the plums to sweeten the end. Sooner or later we ate them ourselves, but Madam Liberality kept her plums for other people. When the vulgar meal was over — that commonplace refreshment ordained and superintended by the elders of the household — Madam Liberality would withdraw into a corner, from which she issued notes of invitation to all the dolls. They were “fancy written” on curl papers and folded into cocked hats. Then began the real feast. The

One eats meat. The other doesn’t. Both are professional chefs. And both have recipes that make a deliciously persuasive case for each chef’s point of view. In a delightful culinary turn on “he said, she said,” dueling chefs Maggie Pleskac and Sean Carmichael engage in a delectable debate over the merits of the cuisines of vegetarians and carnivores in the form of recipe one-upmanship in which only the reader is sure to win. Between entertaining banter and edifying discussion of exciting ingredients, Pleskac and Carmichael challenge each other—and cooks everywhere—with eighty recipes as creative (and mouthwatering) as Beef Brisket with Blueberry BBQ Sauce and Jackfruit Pineapple BBQ on a Bun. Lobster and falafel, curried eggs and smoked halibut, tempeh and quinoa, stuffed capon breast and chickpeas in coconut sauce, goulash and salmon cakes and Bolshevik Beet and Blue Gratin: whatever diet suits your fancy, the dueling chefs have dishes to make your days and nights as delightful as your taste buds can bear.

(minnesota.) When Mollie and I were married from the dear old cottage-home, In the vale between the hills of fir and pine, I parted with a sigh in a stranger-land to roam, And to seek a western home for me and mine. By a grove-encircled lake in the wild and prairied West, As the sun was sinking down one summer day, I laid my knapsack down and my weary limbs to rest, And resolved to build a cottage-home and stay. I staked and marked my “corners,” and I “filed” upon my claim, And I built a cottage-home of ” logs and shakes ; ” And then I wrote a letter, and Mollie and baby came Out to bless me and to bake my johnny-cakes.When Mollie saw my ” cottage ” and the way that I had ” bached,” She smiled, but I could see that she was ” blue; ” Then she found my ” Sunday-clothes ” all soiled and torn and patched, And she hid her face and shed a tear or two. But she went to work in earnest and the cabin fairly shone, And her victuals were so savory and so nice That I felt it was ” not good that the man should be alone “— Even in this lovely land of Paradise. Well, the neighbors they were few and were many miles apart. And you couldn’t hear the locomotive scream ; But I was young and hardy, and my Mollie gave me heart, And my ” steers ” they made a fast and fancy team. And the way I broke the sod was a marvel, you can bet, For I fed my ” steers ” before the dawn of day ; And when the sun went under I was plowing prairie yet, Till my Mollie blew the old tin horn for tea. And the lazy, lousy ” Injuns ” came a-loafing round the lake, And a-bcgging for a bone or bit of bread ; And the sneaking thieves would steal whatever they could take— From the very house where they were kindly fed. The Stories of Mary Gordon

The Stories of Mary Gordon

$1.99

The masterly stories of Mary Gordon return us to the pleasure of this writer’s craft and to her monumental talent as an observer of character and of the ever-fading American Dream. These pieces encompass the pre- and postwar Irish American family life she circles in the early Temporary Shelter series, as well as a wealth of new fiction that brings her contemporary characters into middle age; it is their turn to face bodily decline, mortality, and the more complex anxieties of modern life. Gordon captures the sharp scent of feelings as they shift, the shape of particular lives in their hope and incomprehensibility. In “The Neighborhood,” a seven-year-old who has lost her father finds birthday parties, with their noisy games and spun-sugar roses on fancy cakes, her greatest trial. “City Life” explores the dark side of Manhattan apartment living. “Intertextuality” proposes a dream meeting between Proust’s characters and the author’s aging grandmother. Throughout, Gordon’s surprising path to the center of a story is as much a part of the tale as the self-understanding her characters achieve in the process: “What were they all, any of them, feeling?” one narrator ventures. “This was the sort of question no one in my family would ask. Feelings were for others: the weak, the idle. We were people who got on with things.”With their powerful insights into how we make do, both socially and privately, these stories are a treasure of American fiction. Each is a joy to read and a chance to savor Gordon’s clear vision: her ability to reveal at every turn what we need and what we wish for, and her willingness, always, to address what comes of such precious wishes.
